Jerry Hoffman on duty

12 Sports Productions captures the celebration launching the historic PEAK 2 PEAK gondola linking Whistler and Blackcomb mountains on 12/12, which happened to be Jerry Hoffman's birthday as well. Hoffman spent the week at Whistler documenting the festivities (see recent Snowblogs on this site) of the engineering marvel that set several World records, including length between towers (nearly 2 miles) and height suspended above ground (426 meters above Fitzsimmons Creek).

Welcome

Happy New Year skiers and riders. 2009 to greet snowsporters with plenty of powder.

Greetings and best wishes for a tremendous ski season on the slopes. After a slow start, mountains throughout the west now are blanketed with enough snow to put your rock skis back in storage. The final weeks of December have produced 4-5 feet of accumulation at most Western North American resorts, and unsettled weather is in the forcast with the New Year upon us. Sierra ski areas have all reported several feet of new heading into Christmas, and the busy week leading to 2009, will add to the totals. Lake Tahoe mountains are nearing 100% operation, with only the steepest terrain not yet open. The Northwest has been slammed, although Whistler-Blackcomb is way below last years totals at this time. Ski resorts in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico are all enjoying freshies. While the wacky weather will eventually provide for deep snow bases, high winds today (Christmas) in the Sierra have closed many chairlifts. Consult the links below for the current conditions anywhere in the world. In the next couple of months, 12 Sports Productions will be on the road, providing video blogs from Tamarack in Idaho, Deer Valley, Powder Mountain and Snowbasin in Utah, Winter Park, Breckenridge and other Colorado resorts and Heavenly at Lake Tahoe. The ski season is heating up, and we send you our warmest wishes for health, happiness and endless powder. Skiyal8r.
