Snowbird, Utah – Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort was blanketed with snow this weekend when the first November storm system moved through Little Cottonwood Canyon depositing approximately 10 inches atop 11,000-foot Hidden Peak.

Forecasts are calling for an additional 1-2 feet this week, and with temperatures dropping below freezing, Snowbird will have the snow guns running beginning this evening.

“Over the weekend, Snowbird ushered in winter with an impressive early season storm,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. “With more snow on the way this week, everyone is eagerly awaiting opening day and the start of another memorable year in Little Cottonwood.”

The 10 inches of weekend snowfall is the first recorded accumulation for the 2008-09 ski season. Snowbird’s Snow Safety Department does not officially begin seasonal snowfall records until Nov. 1. Last year, Snowbird received 611 inches of The Greatest Snow on Earth®.

Offering the longest season in Utah, Snowbird is scheduled to open for the 2008-09 season Saturday, Nov. 22. Last winter Snowbird had a 183-day season with skiing and riding from Nov. 30 to June 22. Early season lodging packages are currently available starting at $99/night.

Snowbird, along with neighboring Alta, was recently named the number 1 ski destination in North America by Outside Magazine. Recent area improvements include renovations of the Tram Club and the Aerie Sushi Bar, located on the top floor of the Cliff Lodge. Kids 12 and under will ski free at Snowbird for 2008-09 with all lodging packages booked through Snowbird Central Reservations or www.snowbird.com. Snowbird’s Mountain School has also added new pre-season pricing to its private lesson offering.
