North Lake Tahoe Recreation Update

March 3, 2008

It’s a super time for skiing, boarding and playing in the snow with
clear, sunny skies and spring-like conditions all week.

Northstar-at-Tahoe – Northstar’s Women’s Ski and Snowboard Camp is
Wednesday, March 5 through Friday, March 7 and is taught by the
resort’s top certified female instructors. Camp includes three days
of instruction, demo equipment, lunch, video analysis and more.

Squaw Valley USA – Squaw hosts the J3 Giant Slalom Friday, March 7
through Sunday, March 9 as part of the USSA/Far West Ski Association
J3 West Series.

Boreal Mountain Resort – Boreal offers one of Tahoe’s best
Superpipe’s (450 feet), which is cut twice daily and open day and
night.

Sugar Bowl Ski Resort – Throughout the month of March, Sugarbowl
offers free lessons and rentals Monday through Friday with the
purchase of an all-day lift ticket (ages 13 to 69 years).

Diamond Peak – Diamond Peak hosts the Diamond Peak Poker Run
Saturday, March 8. Participants are given a list of clues to find the
location of the dealers. Once they find the dealers, they pull some
cards and the person with the best hand wins.

Homewood Mountain Resort – Homewood hosts Women’s Edventures 4 this
weekend, Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 for skiers and
snowboarders. The program includes five hours of instruction each
day, video analysis, lunch, snacks and goodie bag.

Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe – Be a Champion Ski Race and Party is scheduled
for Tuesday, March 11. Public races are based on format and best
combined times.

Alpine Meadows – Alpine hosts the Sick & Twisted Big Air this Sunday,
March 9, where a Big Air jump is set up for skiers and snowboarders
of all ages and skill levels to show off their stuff for prizes.

Neighborhood Secrets: Mt. Rose Meadows may be one of Lake Tahoe’s
best kept secrets It’s beautiful and serene. But this Saturday, March
8, from noon to 4 p.m., things get busy with the First Annual Snow
Kite Demo Day, when participants have a chance to try new gear, get
some free lessons and talk to other snow kiters from around the region.

The 27th Annual Snowfest continues through Sunday, March 9 with a
number of events, including the Snowfest Castle Contest and Unveiling
in Kings Beach, 3rd Annual Science Expo in Incline Village, Mamasake
Extreme Food Challenge in the Village at Squaw Valley and the Tahoe
Biltmore Toga party in Crystal Bay. For all the details, click to

New this year to Snowfest is the Joe King Poker Tournament Friday,
March 7, 7 p.m. at the Cal Neva in Crystal Bay. The Kings Beach-based
North Tahoe Business Association will host this event. It’s a $100
buy in with prizes awarded to all finalists at the Championship
Table. Participants are encouraged to “dress the part” of 1920s
gamers. Kings Beach came to be in 1925 when Joe King allegedly
acquired the land after an all night poker game.

The Big Blue Adventure Series gets a snow-filled early jump on the
2008 season with the Tahoe Winter Blue Adventure Race Sunday, March 9
at Northstar-at-Tahoe. The event offers an opportunity to experience
a snow covered Sierra via snowshoes and skis. For details, click to

The North Lake Tahoe Express daily airport shuttle service is
available to and from North Lake Tahoe and the Reno-Tahoe
International Airport. The shuttle runs from 3:30 a.m. until 12
midnight. Fees are $35 per person, one-way, and $60 round trip.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – February 5, 2008 – Sierra Resort opened its award-winning 400-foot long Superpipe to the public today with 17-foot walls and superior snow conditions. The award-winning Superpipe is the latest addition to Sierra Resort’s freestyle terrain, which includes five terrain parks featuring a wide array of jumps, boxes, rails, bonks and other innovative features.

“I am so excited to be home and to be able to ride Sierra’s pipe,” said Hannah Teter, Sierra Elite Team Athlete and winner of the women’s halfpipe gold medal in Torino, Italy. “It’s perfect timing for me from a learning/progression stand-point. Time to get shred-nasty!”

Cut by Tyson Terpening, Park Grooming Supervisor, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort’s Superpipe is well known all over California for consistently delivering a superior experience. Terpening himself is a well-known personality in the freestyle terrain industry and has worked to build features for the the U.S. Open and the Vans Cup – two most prestigious freestyle competitions in North America.

The Superpipe is just the latest addition to Sierra Resort’s freestyle terrain . Five terrain parks have been keeping skiers and riders busy jumping and jibbing all season long. From the low-to-the-ground, low-consequence features in the Burton Progression Park to the small to medium features in the Snowshoe park and the medium to large features in the Bashful park, The Alley and the Smokey park, freestyle skiers and riders have been enjoying the best of terrain park innovation all season long. Still to come this season are a dedicated rail park, an eight-foot halfpipe and a boardercross course.
