SQUAW VALLEY USA NAMES JONNY MOSELEY CHIEF MOUNTAIN HOST

Moseley hosts daily mountain ski tours during the holidays, Dec 26-Jan 3*

[Squaw Valley USA] December 20, 2008 – Squaw Valley USA announced today that Jonny Moseley has been appointed the resort’s Chief Mountain Host. Jonny Moseley’s history with Squaw Valley dates back to his childhood, as Jonny skied through the ranks of Squaw Valley’s youth ski programs, and was a member of the Squaw Valley Freestyle Team when he won gold at the Nagano Olympics. In 1998, following his gold, Squaw Valley USA renamed the infamous West Face run on KT-22 “Jonny Moseley’s Run.”
On bringing Moseley on board, Squaw Valley USA Chairman and CEO Nancy Cushing exclaims, “We’re elated to have Jonny back at his home mountain to fill a newly created position – the Chief Mountain Host of Squaw Valley USA."
For his first gig as Chief Mountain Host, Johnny Moseley will be hosting “Here’s Jonny” mountain tours, every day from Friday, December 26 through Saturday, January 3, *with the exception of New Year’s Day. These special ski tours are open to the public and commence daily at 10 am at the top of the Funitel.
"Squaw Valley’s terrain and youth skiing programs gave me the opportunity to compete around the world and win the Olympics in 1998. During that time I always informally promoted Squaw Valley with a great sense of pride. I am ecstatic to officially work with the Squaw team to help continue to carry the torch that Alex Cushing lit making Squaw a premier world-class destination for both Northern Californians and the international crowd that Squaw attracts,” says Moseley.
In his new position Moseley will focus on introducing media, guests, and VIPs to the mountain, and sharing his unique Squaw Valley perspective. Skiers, riders, and media can get in touch with Johnny directly at jonnymoseley@squaw.com.
“As Chief Mountain Host, I really look forward to skiing, snowboarding and showing people the resort that I grew up skiing and love. Please send me a message at jonnymoseley@squaw.com - let's get out on the mountain!”

Like clockwork, a promising beginning to the ski season is stalled by warm temperatures. Every season it seems when Tahoe, Colorado and Utah resorts get dusted in October, things seem to fizzle by Thanksgiving. Now in December, Sierra resorts are delaying openings while mountains in other Western States have the barest of terrain open. Even Whistler, with it's high latitude is not immune. A dry and warm stretch is challenging the slopes now down to an 18" base. However, Alaska's premier resort Alyeska is leading the world in Snowfall this season.
